Who can be a foster carer?

There is no 'typical' Berry Street foster carer. Just as every family is different, our foster carers come from diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences.

Berry Street foster carers:

are a minimum of 21 years of age

have a spare bedroom to offer a child or young person

can be single, married or in a de facto relationship

can be from LGBTIQA+ communities

I wasn't sure if I could be a foster carer. I'm single. I don't own a house. I rent. I work full-time. I didn't know if it was possible for somebody like me to be a carer...I feel like I had a lot of support from Berry Street in preparing me to become a carer. They were really supportive throughout the whole process."
